Lamar Co. 8 vs. Putnam Co. 5

The Trojans hosted the Region 4-AA Putnam Co. War Eagles in a pivotal region contest on Tuesday, April 12th, at Aldora Field.  The Trojans and the War Eagles were in a 3-way-tie for 3rd place in the region standings, with another set of Eagles -- those of the Crawford Co. variety.  All 3-teams had 4-region losses going into the day.  When the Trojans came out on top in this contest with an 8-5 victory, they remained tied with Crawford Co. in 3rd place, but Putnam Co. fell 1-game-back in the loss column.

This was a tightly played contest for 3-innings with the Trojans holding a 4-3 lead at that point.  The 4th inning would see Lamar Co. stretch their lead to 8-3, as they would cross homeplate 4-times.  Putnam Co. would tack-on 2-more-runs in the top of the 5th to close the margin to 8-5.  Neither team would dent the plate in the 6th and 7th innings.

Jacob Platt 3/4 (1-Run, 4-RBIs) and Gavin Lance 2/2 (2B, 1-RBI) led the Trojans at the plate.  Ivan Banks 2/3 (2-Runs, 1-RBI) and Bailey Thompson 1/3, also, aided the Trojan's cause, offensively.

Defensively, Ryan Lovick had a web-gem in the outfield in the top of the 4th inning, when he tracked-down a flyball in the right-centerfield-gap that would have gone for a triple.  Lovick fired the ball to the cutoff man, who doubled-off a Putnam Co. runner on 2nd base, that failed to tag-up on the flyball to quell the Eagle's uprising in that particular inning.

Eli Housley worked on the mound for 5-innings, while allowing 5-runs (4-earned), on 5-hits, issued-4-walks, & recorded-5-strikeouts.  Bailey Thompson pitched 2-scoreless-innings of relief to get the save.  Thompson retired the Eagle batters in 1,2,3 order in both innings, while issuing no bases-on-balls, no-hits, & registered 3-strikeouts for good measure.

The Trojans ran their overall record to 13-7, while improving their region record to 7-4.  They will return to action on Friday, 4/15, when they travel to Zebulon to take-on the Region 4-AA Pike Co. Pirates at 5:30 p.m.
